Built back in 1899, the Behrens-Eaton House in Redding eventually became home to local historical figure Richard B. Eaton. He was a serious collector of art and historical media, basically turning the property into a vault of local and international history. While serving in the Army, he managed to get his hands on the shrapnel-tattered painting of the Unknown King. You have to wonder what kind of firefight a royal portrait survives, but Eaton recognized its value and later hauled it down to San Francisco to get it properly restored. Today, the house operates as a museum, and the portrait is still hanging right there in the office.
